Video: Paolo Di Canio Pays Tribute to ‘Fantastic Man’ Tommy Burns and Explains Rejecting Lazio for Celtic

Paolo Di Canio has paid tribute to the late great Tommy Burns in a new interview, whilst also explaining how he rejected a move to his boyhood club Lazio in order to sign for us.

The charismatic Italian signed on the dotted line for the Hoops in July 1996 from AC Milan, and went on to become a hero amongst a large portion of our club’s fanbase despite staying just one season in Glasgow, and winning no silverware.

Di Canio moved on to Sheffield Wednesday for a fee of around £4 million in 1997, but the enigmatic forward still remembers his time in Scotland fondly, and, as he explained in a new interview with Sky Sports, has one man in particular to thank for his impressive performances in green and white:

As you can also see in the clip above, Di Canio also explains his difficult negotiations with Fergus McCann – in the same summer that Henrik Larsson arrived at the club.

What a partnership they could’ve made, eh?
